Congratulations to Mrs. Latricia Ferguson, Heart of Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Ferguson teaches fifth grade at Williamsburg Elementary School. Each year, her students demonstrate tremendous growth in reading and math due to her focus on rigor and relevancy in her classroom.

But her classroom is not just about reading and math. It is full of positive relationships, support for students as they grow and develop, and high expectations. One of the trademarks of her classroom is the “Reading Tub,” where students get to read choice books of their own as a reward for doing well in class.

Williamsburg Elementary principal Angela Wimmer said, “Mrs. Ferguson’s ability to inspire students to want to learn is what makes her an exceptional teacher. Students truly want to learn from her.” Mrs. Ferguson was previously recognized as the Metz Kemp Oustanding Educator in 2024.

“Mrs. Ferguson is a dedicated teacher who exemplifies what it means to teach with Thunderbird Pride”, said Mrs. Kenya Thompson, North Callaway R-1 Superintendent. Mrs. Ferguson will be recognized with the other two teachers from the Heart of Missouri region at the statewide banquet sponsored by the Missouri State Board of Education in October.
