NEMO Pressbox Launches: Local schools. Local sports. Local voices.
NEMO Pressbox, a collaboration between local broadcasters and over 25 local school districts, is ready to launch. With schools as far north as Scotland County and as far south as South Callaway, NEMO Pressbox will provide extensive coverage of schools across the region. Brad Boyer, J.B. Connoley, and Austin Ward bring decades of experience broadcasting local sports and news in the northeast and central Missouri area.
“Covering students and communities has been at the heart of J.B.’s, Austin’s, and my work for many years. This new platform continues that work, ensuring we cover deserving students, athletes, and schools in our area. Our schools and communities are special because of the people who make them unique; this just gives us a new opportunity to tell those stories”, says Brad Boyer.
Mr. Tony Degrave, Superintendent of the Monroe City R-1 School District, believes, “The NEMO Pressbox collaboration, under the leadership of Mr. Brad Boyer, will be a remarkable asset to our community. Mr. Boyer is a true legend in northeast Missouri high school sports radio, and his dedication to highlighting the achievements of our student-athletes is unparalleled. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong advocate for our schools and students.”
NEMO Pressbox will broadcast games live through a digital platform accessible through the website: www.nemopressbox.com. With the ability to broadcast live up to three events at a time, local patrons can catch their favorite teams live not only for Friday Night Football but also throughout the week at other local sporting events. Patrons can also find a recap of local games and hear interviews with the coaches.
After Friday night football game broadcasts, post-game coverage will continue with the newly named Friday Night Pressbox Show, where local coaches will be invited to join for a live discussion reviewing their game.
Beyond the playing fields, NEMO Pressbox will also feature interviews with newsmakers from across our network of schools. The website will archive previous broadcasts, allowing listeners to find a game they may have missed or to relive the memory.
Tony Vestal, Activities Director for the Moberly School District, said, " Recognizing our students is so important to our community. NEMO Pressbox offers us a way to stay connected, remain informed, and get the word out about the awesome things happening with our student-athletes and performers.”
Kenya Thompson, superintendent of the North Callaway R-1 District adds, “Local broadcast coverage keeps schools and communities connected, which is worthwhile for students. The NEMO Pressbox team’s demonstrated experience and excellence in promoting the positives of our communities makes this collaboration special. It’s a true effort to bring communities together.”
Voices of the NEMO Pressbox are familiar sounds for those across the northeast and central parts of Missouri. Brad Boyer spent nearly 40 years on the broadcast team of KWIX-KRES-KIRK-KTCM radio. During this time, Brad received several honors, including induction into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015 and enshrinement in the Truman State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016 as the “Voice of the Bulldogs.”
J.B. Connoley and Austin Ward are joining Brad Boyer as broadcasters for the NEMO Pressbox. Connoley, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, has spent the last 12 years of a more than 30-year-long broadcasting career in Moberly. Before becoming the voice of the Moberly Greyhounds, J.B. had been the play-by-play voice of Central College in Iowa, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Maryville University in St. Louis.
Ward, a graduate of Moberly High School, MACC, and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, brings seven years of experience in game-calling and ten years of studio producer experience to the team. For the last several years, Austin has been heard making the call from the mat as the local voice of the Missouri State Wrestling Championships.
Chris Sander, Athletics Director at Westran R-1, stated, “Westran is very excited to be a member of this collaboration and the release of the NEMO Pressbox. These guys have done a great job in the past supporting our students at Westran, and we look forward to their new venture and coverage as the NEMO Pressbox team.”
Listeners can hear a “Kickoff to Pressbox” program Monday, August 26th at 6:00 p.m.. Play-by-play coverage will begin August 29th with J.B. calling Marceline at New Franklin softball. Week One football follows the next night. Going the extra miles, Brad will head to Mount Vernon, Iowa, to cover the Moberly Spartans unique opener against Pewaukee, Wisconsin, while Austin will call the “Callaway Cup” matchup when North Callaway visits South Callaway at www.nemopressbox.com where you will also find a schedule of upcoming broadcasts.
